Off
the soccer field, Mia Hamm is a quiet, sincere, self-assured
woman. On the field, however, it's a different story altogether.
Defensive players around the world actually fear her, because
they know that Mia's combination of speed, strength and determination
are a practically unbeatable combination. She is fiercely
competitive, intensely focused, and able to rally an entire
team just by her performance. Many have called Mia Hamm one
of the best female athletes in the world.
As competitive as Mia is, she is a complete
team player, willing to share the scoring opportunities. That's
why she's not only the all-time leading scorer in women's
soccer, but she also leads in assists. Her list of firsts
and bests and mosts is a long one, and it started early. She
was the youngest player on the US National Team at 15. During
her college career she had what her coach called "The greatest
season ever by a collegiate soccer player." She proceeded
to set NCAA records left and right, was part of the gold-medal-winning
1996 Olympic Women's Soccer Team and, of course, played
a major role in winning the 1999 Women's World Cup.
Mia's quickness, coordination, determination,
perseverance and competitiveness make her a perfect spokesperson
for Gatorade. Her skills incredibly continue to improve, and
her focus on winning never wavers. Mia Hamm's career will
continue to break records for many years to come, inspiring
women soccer teams all across the country and around
the world.
